This was yesterday in the U.S. but I only received the post this morning. Coincidently, I had arranged to read the first chapter of my unpublished novel Harriet and the Secret Librarian to a local class of 9-10 year old children yesterday afternoon. They were enthusiastic and really listened. Remember the 3 E's of reading aloud:
Show the child or children that you are reading to that you really want to be there.
Throw yourself into it-there's nothing worse than a boring, monotone reader.
Give the children a positive experience-make them want to come back for more. If reading the book in chapters, finish at a point where the children will wonder what is next.
From the World Read Aloud Day people: Happy World Read Aloud Day! 83% of kids ages 6-17 told us they love being read aloud to at home, so take a moment today to read aloud to someone you love.
