While waiting to see if anyone is interested in publishing my first novel, and to keep from being frustrated by the wait, I have started working on the next one. Harriet and the Secret Ring sees the main character transported back in time, after discovering a green Garnet ring, whilst researching ancient cultures for a school project. She teams up with her good friend, Will, to work on the project together and to join her in time travel, first to ancient Rome, then to other places. Here is an extract from the opening chapter:
‘LET ME GO!’ yelled Harriet, squirming under the centurion's strong arm. ‘You're hurting me!’He held her close, lifting her off the ground slightly. Her tunic pulled tight around her body, cutting her breath. Swinging her legs, she managed to kick backwards with her right foot, hitting him in the shin. It didn't work: he held her even tighter. His grip was very powerful. She could see the raised blue veins in his hands; smell the sweat on his arm. How on earth was she going to get out of this?
This could be a great adventure for my intrepid young Harriet and her friend. They will even get some good points from the teacher for thorough research. Stay tuned!
