I had a great time today. It was Book Week, and all the children in our local town dressed up as favourite characters and paraded through our main street. I work in a local school, so I dressed up and joined the children and teachers alike. I was the Mad Hatter. (Well, I'm a mad woman). Recently I read an article that suggest the demise of the print book, due to the popularity of electronic books. Now, I am and E-reader myself, and I can see a place for both. This week has been heartening and encouraging, as I see the magic that exists through the world of books. The theme for the week was "Escape to Everywhere." I certainly agree with that. As a middle-grade fiction/fantasy author myself, I say go for it. I hope that one day some children will dress as the characters from my novels to wear in the Book Week parade. It certainly shows the love children still have for the classics, along with more modern novels which are rapidly becoming classics. There were plenty of Harry Potters, along with characters like The Hulk, many from Star Wars, Miss Trunchbull and the Fantastic Mr Fox from Road Dahl books, Snow White and even a small Minion. You are only limited by your imagination. Long live books!
